Introduction
Founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD, Bharatpur is often described as the 'Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan'. An impregnable well-fortified city of yore, it was carved out of the region formerly known as Mewat. The origin of Bharatpur's name is inspired by the name of Bharat, brother of Lord Rama. The dominance of Jat leaders as Churaman and Badan Singh during Mughal period brought the city into limelight. Saras Cranes, Grey Heron, Egret, White Ibis, Spoonbill and Night Heron are some of the attractions of the park.
