  Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

 
 
 
Bharatpur bird sanctuary or the Keoladeo Ghana National park is one of the most venerated finest parks in the world to provide protection to all the species - flora and fauna. Located 57 kilometers from Agra on the Agra-Jaipur Highway, the Bharatpur bird sanctuary nests indigenous water-birds, waterside birds and migratory birds along with its other inhabitants such as Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar. A perfect place to go for bird watching, the sanctuary is one of the best in the world.
 
       
 
Wildlife Attractions
The major attractions among the tourists in the Bharatpur bird sanctuary are migratory birds, who fly from places as far as Siberia and Central Asia, especially during the winters(Indian). Some of the migratory birds which make the quiet atmosphere of the sanctuary lively by their melodious enchants are species of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Wagtails, Warblers, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks and Pipits etc.

Flora : Also known as Keoladeo Ghana National park, the Bharatpur bird sanctuary, which is covered with a dense forest (Also the literal meaning of the Ghana Park), shelters a vast and diverse flora. The total area of the park is stretched over 29 square kilometers, most of which comprises grasslands with 44,000 diverse plant species, a host to more than 380 species of birds.

Fauna :
Besides the endangered species of several species of migratory birds and others, the Bharatpur bird sanctuary also protects its fauna. The park is also a home to several peace-loving animals such as Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

A trip to Bharatpur
Bharatpur Museum : Apart from the attractive sanctuary, the museum, which provides a glimpse of the royal history of Bharatpur, is another major destination in the city.

Bharatpur Lake : The beautiful lake in the park's complex not only attracts the tourists but also the birds.

Bharatpur Palace : A trip of the palace makes one walk through the gallery of marvellous Mughal and Rajput architectural glory.

 
       
 
How To Reach
Air : The nearest airport is at Agra, 57 kilometers from Bharatpur.

Rail : There is a regular rail service to Bharatpur from all the major cities of India. The Bharatpur railway station is at a mere distance of 6 kilometers from the park.

Road : An excellent network of roadway services connect Bharatpur to all the major cities of the Rajasthan and other parts of India.

Best Time to Visit
The sanctuary remains open throughout the year, but the ideal timer to visit the place would be from October to February to watch migratory birds and August to November for resident breeding birds.
