  Corbett National Park

 
 
 
The Jim Corbett National Park, named after the legendary hunter and conservationist, Jim Corbett, is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in India. Established in 1936, the Corbett wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 600 square kilometers(322 square kilometers-core area) in two districts of Uttaranchal - Nainital and Pauri. The park, considered as one of the best protected places in the world, is a home to wide range of animals, birds and thick vegetation.
 
       
 
The Wildlife
The rich wildlife in the Corbett wildlife sanctuary comprises 110 tree species, 580 bird species, 50 mammal species and 25 reptile species. The birds, plants, animals, fishes and insects - all of them form an integral part of the flora and fauna of the national park.

Flora : The Corbett wildlife sanctuary is famous for its scenic beauty and the secret of its beauty lies in the rich and varied flora. The evergreen sal, sheesham, dhak, ber and bel trees stands together to form a core of the entire flora. Other important trees in the sanctuary are simal, khair and jhingan, which blossoms in the spring season. Besides, there are other plants like lovely palas, kachnar and amaltas, which blooms in the springs and add to the mesmerising effect of the scenic greenery of the sanctuary.

Fauna : Supported by rich flora and congenial environment conditions, the Corbett national park hosts a number of animal species. Tigers being the main centre of attraction, elephants, leopards, Himalayan black beers, hedgehogs, flying foxes, Indian pangolins, jackals, Himalayan palm civets, Indian mongoose, common otters, goat antelopes, langurs and fish-eating Crocodiles are some of the other species to be found in the park.

Besides, there are about 600 birds species of migratory and resident birds in the Corbett National Park. Some of the most prominent birds found in the Corbett National Park are Cormorants, Darter, Grey Heron, Egrets, Cattle Egret, White-necked and Black-necked Storks, Large Pied Wagtail, Parrots, Mynas among many others.
 
       
 
How to Reach
Railways : The nearest railhead is at Ramnagar, 51 kilometers from the park.

Airways : Pantnagar is the nearest airport, 50 kilometers away.

Roadways : The Jim Corbett National Park is well connected by road with other parts of the country.

Best Time to Visit
The best months to visit the Corbett wildlife sanctuary is during the months of March to June and September to mid November.

General Information
one should avoid the place in the monsoons as the park remains closed from mid June to mid November.
