  Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary

 
 
 
The Sariska wildlife sanctuary, which is spread over an area of 800 square kilometers, lies in the Aravalli hills. Recently in news for its tiger reserve, the Sariska sanctuary also nests a variety of birds. Within the sanctuary, there is a large Siliserh lake and ruins of medieval monuments, which are an add on to its beauty. Declared as a National park in 1979, the Sariska National park in Rajasthan presents a vivid picture of the wildlife before is onlookers.
 
       
 
Wildlife in Sariska
The Sariska National park is rich in both- flora and fauna. One can find an abundance of species such as Tigers, Monkeys, Ambar, Chitel, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Besides, the flora of the sanctuary which includes Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden backed Wood Pecker, Crested Serpent Eagle and the Great Indian Horned Owl can be a treasured moment for the tourists.

Flora : The Sariska National Park offers a natural habitat centre to the different species of birds. A number of migratory birds visit the sanctuary annually. Besides, the resident birds, which can be commonly sighted are Oriental White-eye, Small Buttonquail, Black Ibis, Lesser Whitethroat, Eurasian Spoonbill, Barn Owl, Common Hoopoe, Jungle Babbler, Tawny-bellied Babbler, Inornate Warbler, Common Tailorbird, Greenish Warbler, Asian Pied Starling, Common Myna, Brahminy Starling, Chestnut-tailed Starling, Mottled Wood Owl, Tufted Duck, White-rumped Vulture, Pariah Kite, Griffon Vulture, Shikra, Eurasian Sparrow hawk, Singing Bushlark, Darter, House Swift and other birds.

Fauna : The Sariska wildlife sanctuary has a wide range of Tigers, Leopards, Wild Dogs, Nilgai, Wild-boar, Fox, Gaur, Sambar, Chital, Hyena and four horned Antelope. Though the tigers in Sariska are the most endangered species, they can be seen roaming freely in the park.

Historical Attractions in Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary
Shiva Temples : The ruins of the temples of the Hindu lord Shiva, which dates back to the 6th century CE, provides a picturesque sight to the tourists.

Kankwari Fort : The Kankwari fort, where the Indian emperor Aurangzed had imprisoned his brother Dara Shikoh, is an important historic site in the Sariska National park.

The Palace : Once the palace of the royal Maharajas of Alwar, the Sariska palace attracts the tourist in the form of a huge hotel.
 
       
 
How to Reach
Railways - The nearest railway station is at Alwar, 37 kilometers away from Sariska.

Airways - Jaipur, 107 kilometers from Sariska is the nearest airport from Sariska. From Jaipur, wither road route or rail route can be taken to reach Sariska.

Roadways - Situated on the Delhi-Alwar-Jaipur road, Sariska is easily accessible from Jaipur(107 kilometers) and Delhi(200 km). Sariska is also well connected with Alwar(37 km) by various services of commuting.

General Information
The best way to hang around the sanctuary is by taking up a Jeep Safari, which provides an excellent opportunity of wildlife viewing and photography from a closer distance as well.
